We continue to hear news of many recognitions for our students and faculty in a broad range of fields. We have collected a number of them here, but please forgive us if we have overlooked any!

Faculty

Tim Stout published another book on the Japanese language titled, Japanese Kanji for Beginners. 

Class V teacher Paula Getz received her second Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Gifted Eductation from Arizona State University.

Academic Dean Harmony Button received an Honorable Mention in the Oasis Short Film Festival for her short film, Women Who. She also has a poem coming out in the Spring in Juked magazine.

Students

Waterford's 2016 Men's Tennis Team was chosen and honored last month by the Utah Tennis Association as the 2015-2016 Men's High School Team of the Year.

Class IV student Joclyn is working on her first novella. You can read a short story by Jocyln here. 

Class V student Shayan took first place in the Waterford Geography Bee. 

Class II student Ellie competed at the Park City YSL (youth ski league) race on Saturday 1/21/2017. She placed 1st in her age division (out of 32 skiers) and 3rd overall out of 87 skiers.

Class XI student Tanisha Martheswaran was the overall champion at the district science fair (independent/parochial schools) at Juan Diego on February 11. Her project, "Waste Embraced 2.0: A Novel Study of the Effects of Optimized Struvite Precipitation on Biogas Production and Resource Recovery from Municipal Landfill Leachate and Wastewater Centrate" explores "using landfill leachate and wastewater centrate, two highly prevalent forms of municipal waste around the world, to increase methane gas production and recover nutrients using an innovative framework." This qualifies her for the state science & engineering fair on March 23. 

The Debate team competed in the Copper Classic tournament, a National Circuit tournament with bids to the Tournament of Champions (TOC) for semi-finalists in Public Forum. Madeleine Sorenson came in second for Novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, made it to octo-finals, and Walter Robson and Will Zimmermann made it to semi-finals and earned a TOC bid. It is the second largest tournament in Utah with 58 schools competing, some coming from California, Nevada, Wyoming, and Idaho. In the qualifying tournament for the National Catholic Forensic League tournament, Alan Chao and Eric Zimmermann placed third overall in Public Forum debate and earned an invitation to the national tournament. Alyssa Varghese placed fifth overall in Lincoln Douglas debate and is the first alternate for an invitation to the tournament. The national tournament will take place Memorial Day weekend in Louisville, KY.
