Environmental Stewards - Waterford commits to Adopt a Highway in Little Cottonwood Canyon

Waterford is fortunate to be situated minutes from the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Our location affords more than just the beauty of the mountains, it acts as an extension of our campus, and our Outdoor Program is one of the first programs to benefit. With access to the mountains, our students have the ability to participate in world-class skiing, rock climbing and hiking, minutes from our campus. 

What better cross-section with our Community Service outreach than giving back to Little Cottonwood Canyon. At the end of last year, Waterford adopted a section of the road in Little Cottonwood Canyon between mile marker 4 and 6. In April, coinciding with Earth Day, our students began to clean up the section of the road on both sides. 

“We have an outdoor program where we are outside, usually in the canyons, three times per week and we have an active community service program, so this commitment fits perfectly. But it’s something we can have all the school participate in and already have had several groups interested in helping clean up.”    – Christopher Watkins, outdoor program director and upper school community service director.
