Board of Trustees


Waterford School is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization governed by an independent volunteer Board of Trustees. The Trustees have fiduciary, legal, and ethical responsibility for the institution—strategically planning for the long-term sustainability of The School in accordance with its mission.

Eric Huefner, Chair, P ’19, ’19, ’23, ’27

Eric graduated from Harvard University with honors, receiving a B.A. in Economics, and holds an M.B.A. with
honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Eric serves as the president and chief operating officer
of Grandeur Peak Global Advisors. Prior to co-founding Grandeur Peak in 2011, he was vice president of Marketing
and Mutual Funds at Wasatch Advisors. Eric has extensive experience in developing and implementing marketing
strategies, increasing product awareness, brand positioning, and advertising having spent twelve years in brand
management at Sara Lee, Kraft/Nabisco, and Campbell’s. Early in his career, Eric spent three years as a middle and
upper school math teacher and a basketball, golf, soccer, and lacrosse coach at Waterford. His own children have been
students at Waterford since 2006.

Tom holds a B.A. in Government from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. He is an entrepreneur with a focus on internet media and services companies. He’s currently the CEO of ExpertVoice, the leader in advocacy marketing, helping branded product companies grow by improving the recommendations of over a million product experts who consumers rely on when making decisions about what to buy. He formerly served as the chief executive officer of Ancestry.com Inc. and as president of Ticketmaster. com.

After Waterford, Aaron attended the University of Utah and received a BS in Behavioral Science and Health. He has worked in the healthcare industry since he was 14 years old and is currently the CEO of Cozy Healthcare, Inc. which focuses on home health and hospice in Utah and Arizona. In addition, Aaron has developed properties in the senior living space and serves as a consultant in many areas of the healthcare field. As an active investor in the stock market, he was known to make stock trades between classes during his time as a student at Waterford. Prior to joining the Board, Aaron has been a very active member of the Alumni Council for 10 years. He likes anything sports and loves to travel.

Matt Culberson, P ’00, ’03

Matt has largely divided his time over the past four decades as an itinerant educator and mountain adventurer. While
perhaps having spent too much time at high altitude, he has spent nearly 20 years as an independent school teacher,
including 12 years at Waterford School as teacher and administrator and where all three of his stepsons attended.
Matt retired from education in 2023 having spent his last 17 years as a Head of School in Utah and Washington. He
has served on more than a dozen boards of trustees, including K-12 schools, regional education associations, and
national climbing and access organizations, as well as on four clinical medical ethics committees. Matt earned a MA
from University of Denver in Philosophy (Ethics).

Chantal Dolan, P ’21, ’22

Chantal received her BA in Human Biology from Stanford University, her MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from UC Berkeley, and her PhD in Epidemiology from the Stanford University School of Medicine. She has two decades of experience working in the biotechnology industry both in-house and as a consultant. Currently, Chantal is President of CMD Consulting. She has worked in all phases of clinical trials to design and implement scientifically sound epidemiology and outcomes research studies to support the biologic license applications of biotechnology products. She has experience working in many clinical areas including oncology, endocrinology, immunology, pulmonary diseases, and ophthalmology.

Ray graduated with honors from the University of Utah with a B.S in Economics and received his Juris Doctorate from Duke University. Ray is chairman of the board of directors at Parsons Behle & Latimer, where he devotes his practice to business litigation. He has extensive experience representing clients in the areas of antitrust, intellectual property, securities litigation, class action defense, and other complex business litigation. Ray is recognized in Best Lawyers in America for Bet-the-Company Litigation, Antitrust Law and Commercial Litigation. He is also recognized in Chambers USA for Business Litigation and Antitrust Law. He is an active member of the Litigation, Antitrust and Intellectual Property Sections of the American Bar Association.

Jamie Holden, P ’29, ’34

Jamie holds a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an M.B.A. from
Harvard Business School. Her career has been focused on technology and private equity, where
she was most recently a Senior Vice President at Vista Equity Partners. She was the Chief
Operating Officer at People Admin, a Vista Equity Partners portfolio company, and held Value
Creation roles in the firm. Before joining Vista Equity Partners, she focused on Software and
Peripherals and B2B eCommerce and Dell. After graduating from West Point, Jamie served in the
US Army, achieving the rank of Captain.

Ron graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University and earned an M.B.A. with honors from Harvard Business School. After 13 years at Bain Capital, Ron co-founded Sorenson Capital in 2002, where he is Managing Partner and head of the Investment Committee. Ron has nearly three decades of investing experience and has witnessed three major economic booms and three major downturns. Ron’s educational training in engineering inspires a natural analytical outlook toward challenging issues. Ron loves the outdoors, and all that is offered therein, and is a big Waterford sports fan.

Steve Miller, P ’15, ’17, ’19, ’23

Steve earned a Bachelor of Arts in Consumer Studies and Family Economics from the University of Utah and recently completed the Families in Business course at the Harvard Business School where he also completed the Owner/President Management course beginning in May 2017. Steve has worked for the Miller Group for over 24 years in various positions, including president of Miller Sports Properties (now LHMSE) and president of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. He was instrumental in building the Tour of Utah pro cycling race which contributes over $20 million in direct economic impact to the state of Utah annually. Steve is the chair of the Futures/Strategic Planning Committee for the Utah Sports Commission and is an executive committee member of the board of trustees for the Economic Development Corporation of Utah. He is an avid outdoorsman, loves to travel, and enjoys attending U2 concerts.

Blake Murray, P ’26, ’28, ’31

Blake is the co-founder and CEO of Divvy, a spend and expense management software company. In 2018, Utah Valley Magazine named Blake one of their 40 Under 40. Blake graduated from the University of Utah and attended Overlake School, an independent school in Seattle, Washington. Blake has been a parent at Waterford since 2012.

Heather Scott, P ‘27, ‘29, ‘32

Heather received her BA in Psychology from The University of Vermont, and after working in the field of Neuropsychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, earned her MD from Jefferson Medical College. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Utah, and practiced at Cottonwood Internal Medicine. In addition, she recently earned a Masters in Social Work with the goal of combining her background in medicine with mental health. Heather has been a parent at Waterford since 2012.

Kristin has a Bachelors of Science from the University of Utah in Mass Communications. She worked as a reporter, producer, and assignment editor for KUTV News and also for the Waterford School Advancement Office. In her multiple volunteer roles, she was a former co-chair or the Waterford Parents’ Advisory Committee and past Board Chair, and now present Board Member, at Choice Humanitarian, serving on its Communications Committee. Currently, she is on the Board of Directors for The Neighborhood House, working on its PR/ Development Committee.

JB graduated from Stanford University earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.  JB has been the Lead Portfolio Manager for the Wasatch Core Growth Fund since 2000 and for the Wasatch Small Cap Growth Fund since 2016. In addition, he is a Lead Portfolio Manager for the Wasatch Global Opportunities Fund.  He is also a member of the Wasatch Advisors Board of Directors. He joined Wasatch Advisors as a Research Analyst in 1996, working on the Micro Cap Fund. He began working on the Core Growth Fund as a Senior Research Analyst in 1999.

Nate Walkingshaw is a passionate inventor and serial entrepreneur which started during his upper school years at Waterford,
realizing his fellow students need for snacks, Nate negotiated and installed vending machines on campus. This entrepreneurial
9passion is what drives Nate in his current role as CEO and Founder of Torus, Nate envisions a world without energy poverty
and one powered, sustainably, by Mother Nature. Prior to Torus, Nate served as Chief Experience O cer of Pluralsight for six
years. Other endeavors include founding Paramed which was acquired by Stryker in 2009, Brightface acquired by Strava
Corporation and his Chief of Research position at Tanner Labs. Nate is the author of the books “Product Leadership: How Top
Product Managers Launch Awesome Products and Build Successful Teams” and “Chasing Confidence: Transforming Ideas into
Impact,” One of the many awards Nate has received is Innovator of the Year by Great Places to Work.

Bea is the SVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at O.C. Tanner and she currently serves on the Board of Directors for Ballet West. She previously served on the Boards of Susan G. Komen Utah and the Mary Institute St. Louis Country Day School’s Alumni Board of Visitors. She has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Southern Illinois University and a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law. She has been a parent at Waterford since 2016.

Heather is the former Chief Marketing Officer at both Pluralsight and Domo. She was named one of 30 Women to Watch and CXO of the Year by Utah Business Magazine in 2020. Heather currently serves on the Boards of Thryv, Demandbase and ExpertVoice. She graduated with an MBA from the Wharton School and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. Heather has been a parent at Waterford since 2018.
