Originally from Boise, Idaho, Gus McGee spent six years in Boulder, Colorado. After working several retail jobs ranging from packing boxes for UPS and selling shoes on the famous Pearl Street walking mall, Gus realized that perhaps college was worth it after all, and went to Front Range Community College to obtain an AAoS in Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in Wide Area Networking. Upon receiving the degree, he then achieved two technical certifications; a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and a Comptia A+ certification. These gave Gus the knowledge and backbone to pursue a wide range of roles in the IT field.
Shortly after finishing his Comptia A+ certification regiment, Gus was visiting his sister (3rd grade teacher Colleen Thompson) in Salt Lake to determine if he’d like to make the move from Boulder. While out to dinner, they ran into Nancy Heuston and Lee Bromley who, with their intuitive and perceptive nature, determined that Gus should interview with Darren Beck for an IT position that had yet to be posted. Although Gus accidentally wore the exact uniform that Upper School boys wear to school, the interview went well and Gus was offered the job. Darren and Gus both celebrated the fact that they didn’t need to go through several dozen interviews, and Gus made the move to Salt Lake shortly thereafter. Gus enjoys the wide variety of tasks he is given at Waterford, and feels truly grateful to have been given such an opportunity for a new hire in this industry.
In his free time, Gus enjoys fly fishing, cooking, golfing, hiking, skiing, and staying current in the world of tech.
