A few Waterford Students participated and presented projects at the Utah Science And Engineering Fair that took place over spring break. Please join us in congratulating them on their hard work and fantastic results.
Below is a summary of Waterford School successes:
Physics, Astronomy & Math – First Place – Tarun M. ’21 Project: An Enhanced Early Detection Model of Dengue Fever Outbreaks Using SEIR Infectious Disease Epidemiological Compartments, Generalized Linear Regression Relationships, and Statistical Computing
Physics, Astronomy & Math – Fourth Place – Brian W. ’21, Dereje L. ’21 & Arun A. ’21 Project: Global Chemical Enrichment of Galaxies Using Dust Absorbers in the Early Universe
Engineering: Electrical & Computer Science – Second Place – Emma G. ’22 Project: Human-Powered Generator: An Engineering Solution (Phase V)
Grand Champion Winner, Utah Science and Engineering Fair – Tarun M. ’21
Tarun (Class XI) also won the following special prizes for the presentation of his work on Dengue Fever at ISEF (International Science & Engineering Fair), including:
There were only six "grand champion" winners from Utah, and these are the students to represent Utah at the International Science Fair. Tarun also presented his research at the 5th Intermountain Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (IJSHS) at Montana Tech, Montana during March 2020 where he won 1st Place, and was a Regional Finalist to present research in the oral competition to compete for the National JSHS Scholarship at the 58th National JSHS in Norfolk, Virginia, April 2020. This final event was shifted to a virtual competition with eight categories and almost 230 participants nationwide. Tarun competed in the Mathematics and Computer Science Category on April 15, and at the virtual Award Ceremony, Tarun won 2nd place Grand Award.
