Waterford Fund FAQ

What is the Waterford Fund?

Independent schools depend on philanthropic gifts to expand and enhance the programs they offer. We raise money through the Waterford Fund to provide unrestricted income for day-to-day operating expenses of the school. From art supplies for our studios to faculty professional development to enhance the learning experience of our students, the Waterford Fund makes Waterford possible.

When does the Waterford Campaign begin and end?

The annual Waterford Fund campaign begins shortly after the beginning of the school year, and ends on the last day of Waterford’s fiscal year, August 31. We have several mini fundraising campaigns throughout the year to raise awareness and participation.

How much money am I expected to give?

The size of gifts to the Waterford Fund vary, but all gifts are important! We hope that you will give at any level that is right for you. Every contribution, no matter the size, allows our students to thrive at Waterford.

Why is participation important?

High levels of participation shows the greater community that our constituents are willing to invest in the lives of today’s Waterford Ravens. It signals that our community has confidence in the mission of the school and in our strategic plan. It also demonstrates to foundations that our community is strong, united, and worthy of outside support.

Does Waterford accept matching gifts from companies?

Yes! Many employers have a matching gift policy and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. If your employer offers this benefit, please submit your company's required form to us and we will process on your behalf.

What is the difference between a pledge and a gift?

A gift is a donation now. A pledge is your commitment to donating by August 31—the last day of our fiscal year.

Can I make a pledge to the Waterford Fund?

Yes! Pledges can be paid in installments through automatic monthly installments every month through August 31.

All pledges must be paid in full at the close of our fiscal year, August 31. Make a pledge today!

Is my gift tax deductible?

Waterford School is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, therefore your gift is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law as determined by the IRS. A letter of recognition will be provided to acknowledge your gift. Please retain these letters for tax purposes.

To request a replacement letter of recognition please contact Verity Flurer, Advancement Office Manager, with any questions at verityflurer@waterfordschool.org or 801-816-2217.

Can my gift be made anonymously?

Yes. Every effort will be made to accommodate your desire to be anonymous. Donations are handled with respect and confidentiality. Please communicate your intentions for anonymity to the Director of the Waterford Fund, Ann McCoy at annmccoy@waterfordschool.org, indicate your intention when donating online, or write your intention clearly on your Waterford Fund response card.
