Science Comes to Life in Lower School

Science is an integral part of our Lower School curriculum. We begin integrating science into the curriculum in Preschool. Science concepts are woven into the many parts of the Preschool day, from centers and outdoor play, to snack and small group activities. We know that the natural world is a powerful stimulus for observation. As students investigate the properties of plants, earth, and critters, they enjoy hands-on exploration and observation with many opportunities to design their own experiments with water, sand, rocks, soil, nuts, shells, and inclines and ramps both in our indoor and outdoor classroom settings.

More formal science instruction begins in Kindergarten, when students attend science class in one of our LS science labs twice a week through Class V.  Science instruction in our science labs (specifically designed for young learners)  allows for hands-on activities and weekly labs to reinforce the science concepts taught by our LS Science Specialists. Our Kindergarten-Class V vertical science curriculum is aligned with and provides a clear path to advanced Middle & Upper School science courses. The foundational science objectives, skills, and most importantly, love and passion for all things science begins here, in our Lower School.
