School Nurse and PK-12 Wellness Coordinator

The Waterford School, a PK-12 day school enrolling 920 students in suburban Salt Lake City, seeks a full time School Nurse and Wellness Coordinator for the 2018-2019 school year. Waterford offers a broad, college-preparatory liberal arts program that emphasizes the fine arts in conjunction with the traditional academic disciplines and athletics.

The School Nurse and Wellness Coordinator will report to the Associate Head of School, and work closely with the Lower School Head, the Dean of Students, and the School Psychologists to shape, execute, and improve broad-based student health and wellness efforts across all divisions.

The ideal candidate will have a BS RN degree with a current Utah license, solid organizational and administrative skills, and an educator’s perspective. Three to five years of relevant experience is ideal. Waterford follows a September to June school calendar. This position would be full-time from August 15 through June 15, with flexibility during the other two months of summer.

Specific responsibilities would include the following: respond to instances of student illness or injury, assess and evaluate acute illness and injury for students, maintain records of all health incidents on campus, provide health information to all members of the community as needed, work with office staff to ensure timely and accurate compliance with state immunization requirements for all students, coordinate and keep records of annual First Aid and CPR training for appropriate personnel, create and distribute individualized health plans for students as needed, collaborate with school counselors and deans to support students across a range of relevant health issues, contribute to annual review of policy and procedure related to health and safety on campus and on school related trips and activities, work with other faculty and administrators to develop and deliver health lessons and course curricula as needed, teach courses as needed, stay current on health topics and research in a school context. This list is not necessarily exhaustive, but it captures the scope of the position’s responsibilities.

The Waterford campus is set on 45 acres at the foot of the Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, one of North America’s premier outdoor and recreational areas. The school offers an outstanding working environment. The atmosphere is collegial; both families and faculty show a genuine commitment to learning.
