School Nurse

Waterford School is Utah’s premier liberal arts, college preparatory private school for students in Preschool through High School. Student learning is Waterford School’s reason for being. Since its founding, the School has instilled habits of independent thought, critical thinking, responsibility, passionate learning, and service to others. Waterford School’s liberal arts program provides a strong foundation, and the campus culture prepares students to pursue lives of meaning and purpose. Waterford delivers a world-class education distinguished by a rich curriculum, an outstanding faculty, a deep commitment to student growth, and a learning environment that is caring, nurturing, and inspiring.

The ideal candidate for the School Nurse position will have a BS RN degree with a current Utah license, solid organizational and administrative skills, and an educator’s perspective. Experience working in a school is preferred, but not required. Waterford follows a September to June school calendar. In addition to typical school nurse responsibilities (see below), this position requires experience and readiness to be an effective partner with school leadership in shaping and executing health and safety protocols for school reopening when possible during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are looking for someone with confidence, common sense grounded in experience, a capacity for research as needed, and clear communication skills. Salary would be commensurate with the candidate’s level of training and experience.

Specific responsibilities would include the following: respond to instances of student illness or injury, assess and evaluate acute illness and injury for students, maintain records of all health incidents on campus, provide health information to all members of the community as needed, work with office staff to ensure timely and accurate compliance with state immunization requirements for all students, coordinate and keep records of annual First Aid and CPR training for appropriate personnel, create and distribute individualized health plans for students as needed, collaborate with school counselors and deans to support students across a range of relevant health issues, contribute to annual review of policy and procedure related to health and safety on campus and on school related trips and activities, work with other faculty and administrators to develop and deliver health lessons and course curricula as needed, stay current on health topics and research in a school context. This list is not necessarily exhaustive, but it captures the general scope of the position’s responsibilities.

The Waterford campus is set on 45 acres at the foot of the Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, one of North America’s premier outdoor and recreational areas. The school offers an outstanding working environment. The atmosphere is collegial; both families and faculty show a genuine commitment to learning.
