Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Diversity Statement

Diversity refers to the range of difference within the Waterford community (perspective, thought, race, gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and more). The habits of critical thinking and civic engagement develop most readily in an environment that exposes students to a diverse range of ideas and experiences. Nothing prompts the examination of assumptions as effectively as direct engagement with challenging course materials, and dialogue with classmates and teachers who see the world through a different lens.

Citizenship Statement

With the goal of preparing students for citizenship in a complex world, Waterford commits to creating, on the foundation of the liberal arts philosophy of education, a learning community that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, where all learners feel respected, challenged, inspired, and supported.
