MSUS PE/ Outdoor Teacher

The Waterford School, a Preschool - XII day school enrolling 900 students in suburban Salt Lake City, seeks a full time MSUS Physical Education and Outdoor Program teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. Waterford offers a broad, college-preparatory liberal arts program that emphasizes the fine arts in conjunction with the traditional academic disciplines. The specific course assignments for this position are somewhat flexible, based on a candidate’s training and experience, but would focus on teaching and coaching within the PE program, including a leadership position in the MS/US Outdoor Program.

The ideal candidate would have 3-5 years of teaching experience with an advanced degree and a passion for teaching students within the 10-18 age range. Background and certifications in outdoor education -with an emphasis on rock climbing- strongly preferred. Duties include curriculum development, lesson preparation, student assessment, progress reports, availability to individual students and parents, and attendance at meetings and selected school events.

The new teacher will inherit a large set of creative activities and lessons for existing Class V - XII courses, but would be expected to develop new curriculum as needed, and to refresh existing materials each year. Waterford follows a September to June school calendar.

The Waterford campus is set on 45 acres at the foot of the Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, one of North America’s premier outdoor and recreational areas. The school offers an outstanding working environment. The atmosphere is collegial; both families and faculty show a genuine commitment to learning.
