Lower School Librarian

Full-time Lower School Librarian

The Lower School Librarian reports to the Lower School Head, and collaborates with Lower School faculty, administration and the Middle/Upper School Librarian to cultivate a student-centered, inviting environment.  The Lower School librarian seeks to promote a culture of reading, and to facilitate media and digital literacy. This is an opportunity to create and execute on a forward-thinking vision for a library that nurtures a love of reading, inspires life-long learning and curiosity, and helps positions students to successfully develop skills in research and critical thinking.  The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, a Master of Library Science, and 3+ years of relevant experience working in a lower school library, or as a professional librarian in a school setting. Responsibilities will include managing the Lower School library space (purchasing, maintaining databases, processing, checkout, shelving, cataloguing, etc.), teaching use of library resources, reading to students and fostering a love of reading, collaborating with classroom teachers on research skills curriculum, engaging with parents, and more. The successful candidate will embrace Waterford School’s mission, vision, and values in curriculum, teaching, and membership in the community.
