The Waterford School, a pre-K – 12 day school enrolling 900 students in suburban Salt Lake City, seeks a Middle and Upper School Studio Art teacher for the 2018-2019 school year.

Waterford offers a broad, college-preparatory liberal arts program that emphasizes the fine arts in conjunction with the traditional academic disciplines. Within that context, the Visual Arts department offers a required Middle School curriculum emphasizing the elements and principles of art and design along with guided practice in a variety of art making processes and media. In the Upper School, students who choose to focus on the studio arts complete a sequence of Foundations courses in two and three dimensional media before moving on to AP or other advanced work.

We are seeking applicants who can teach effectively across the range of Visual Arts department offerings in both the Middle and Upper Schools.

The ideal candidate will hold an advanced degree in Studio Art, maintain their own active art practice, as well as model and instruct students in the ways of being an artist. This particular assignment includes teaching both beginning and advanced students in Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, Sculpture, and 3-D Design The ideal candidate will also have experience and interest in teaching other elective offerings in the visual arts. The position requires 18-20 hours per week of studio instruction, with the balance of the work week spent in studio and material preparation, grading, and consultation. Other essential qualities include the ability to develop a healthy rapport with students age 11-18 and the energy to manage the demands of curriculum planning, teaching, and parent communication.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the school’s mission, values, and philosophy. The Visual Arts teacher will participate fully in the life of the school which includes collaborating effectively and collegially with a teaching team, grade-level, and department; and engage in ongoing professional development.
