Maria Katzman

Maria Katzman, is an artist and educator who has been based in NYC for the past three decades. She received her B.F.A from The Kansas City Art Institute and her M.F.A from Yale University. Several years after moving to New York City, Maria established a studio in Woodstock, New York at the historical Byrdcliffe Artist’s Colony.  She has been selected for several Artist in Residence Programs, and most recently traveled to Cappadocia, Turkey to paint at the “Babayan Culture House.”

Traveling, living abroad and experiencing other cultures firsthand are themes that have inspired Maria as a teacher, and as an artist. In 2017-2018 Maria taught art to middle school students at the American Community Schools, in Athens, Greece. She also completed a series of paintings, while living in Greece, that were inspired by her travels to the Cycladic Islands. Upon returning to NYC, she founded an organization called On-Site Art, where she led weekly after school art classes that provided exposure to art spaces including museum and gallery locations. Maria has taught art at the National Academy Museum, Adelphi University, Saint David’s School, the Metropolitan Montessori School, and the Brearley School.
