Harmony Button, the Academic Dean at The Waterford School, earned a B.A. from Middlebury College and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Utah. Before coming to Waterford, she taught in the English Department at Phillips Exeter Summer School for six years and earned several awards and nominations for excellence in teaching at the University of Utah. Harmony joined the Waterford faculty in 2008, and along with developing new curriculum at many grade levels, she has served as the English Department Chair and launched a school-wide Writing Across the Curriculum initiative, including founding a highly popular Writing Center at Waterford. She is now very happy to work with her dedicated team of Waterford faculty and administrators as the Academic Dean. As well as being an educator dedicated to continual professional growth, Harmony is an active writer and poet. Her work has been included in Best American Notable Essays of 2015, she been nominated for Pushcart and Best of the Web awards, and she was awarded the Larry Levis Prize from the Academy of American Poets. She continues to give regular readings upon invitation from the Salt Lake City Arts and the Salt Lake Poetry Society, and she has traveled to give guest readings for Bayou magazine at AWP and Whitworth College in Spokane Washington. Harmony has presented at the &NOW conference as part of the Lake Forest Literary Festival, and she was a featured artist at TEDx Sandy in 2014. You can find her work in numerous literary journals such as Adirondack Review, Colorado Review, Chicago Quarterly and Rock & Sling. Harmony lives in Salt Lake with her partner, Jason, and their dog, both of whom insist on frequent trips to the mountains and time spent digging in the garden.
