Christopher Watkins

Outdoor Program Director B.S. University of Utah

Chris Watkins, the Outdoor Program Director, is a graduate of the University of Utah where he earned a B.S. in the News Editorial sequence of Mass Communications, with a focus on photojournalism and additional studies in literature. Mr. Watkins is currently a MS and US Outdoor Class Instructor, Yearbook Advisor, Upper School Yoga Instructor, Ultimate Frisbee Coach, and the Community Service Advisor. Mr. Watkins has filled numerous roles during his 12 years at The Waterford School. Beginning with Class VIII English and as a middle school basketball coach, Mr. Watkins has been the MS Community Service and Student Government Advisor, Class Dean at both the Middle School and Upper School level, and a consistent trip leader as part of the Summer Term Program. Mr. Watkins has been a leader on trips to Mt. Whitney, the Grand Tetons, Norway, Tanzania and the Waterford Humanitarian trip to Kolkata, India. A native of Carmel, Calif., Mr. Watkins was the Staff Photographer and Photo Editor for a local outdoor publication, Utah Outdoors, then worked for the Salt Lake Tribune during the 2002 Winter Olympics, before working at the Deseret Morning News. A dedicated recreationalist, Mr. Watkins spends as much time as possible outside, with a particular passion for mountain biking, rock climbing, and backcountry snowboarding. Mr. Watkins has competed in Ultimate Frisbee National Championships and the 2002 World Championships. He is also began the Ultimate Frisbee team at the University of Utah in 2005 and coached the team until 2009. Mr. Watkins lives in the Millcreek area with his wife and daughter, Torrey, who is in Class II at Waterford.
