Waterford School seeks a full time Technology Specialist to report directly to our Lower School (LS) Head. The Technology Specialist will provide classroom instruction and technology coordination in the Lower School.  The ideal candidate understands the importance of teaching young learners about ethically and wisely navigating the ever-evolving world of technology, utilizing technology to enhance their liberal arts learning, and using technology to effect change, making a positive difference in the lives of themselves and others.  

Primary Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Informed by ISTE standards, refine the technology scope and sequence, which will provide foundational knowledge in technology, preparing LS students to thrive in a constantly changing technology landscape
  • Build upon and implement a developmentally appropriate and research-based technology curriculum for students in Kindergarten through Class V
  • Provide instruction in computer usage, keyboarding, digital literacy, multimedia, and use of important technology tools
  • Collaborating with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, support the LS program and faculty through the integration of technology platforms and programs across subject areas
  • Support both students and faculty in developing an understanding and skills in using technology for research, creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, communication, organization, computational thinking, and data collection & analyses
  • Develop opportunities for students to explore robotics, programming, and coding
  • Work with the LS administrative team to collect and understand data, using it to make informed programmataic and strategic decisions.  

Competencies and Skills Desired:

  • Experience in elementary classroom
  • Experience implementing or teaching computer technology 
  • Computer programming familiarity with JavaScript and block-based coding, Swift and Python languages
  • Digital literacy; proficiency in Google Apps for Education Suite and other web based applications, flexibility and openness to learning as digital tools evolve 
  • Ability to grow professionally and to stay abreast of changes in the field of education
  • A desire to collaborate with teachers
  • Integrity, professionalism, sound judgment, and emotional intelligence
  • Engaging interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication
  • Strengths in organization and follow through
  • Ability to collect and analyze data
