The Director of Marketing & Communications will provide strategic development, planning and execution of the school-wide communications and marketing programs, coordinated to address Waterford School’s Institutional Advancement agenda and strategy (internal and external) with a unified and cohesive voice. This role will promote and advance the mission and vision of the school and build our community.

The Director of Marketing & Communications serves on the leadership team and reports to the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment & Institutional Advancement. They will represent the School, working directly with the Admissions and Development offices primarily, as well as with all colleagues and other offices and programs (Alumni, College Counseling, Athletics, Summer and Extracurricular Programs). They will be a strong partner with all administrative offices and will provide services for the advancement of each office.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Develop and maintain a school-wide strategic marketing and communications plan that will enhance the visibility, image, and public awareness of the School.
  • Develop and maintain annual communications calendar
  • Develop and execute a strategic marketing plan geared towards prospective families and all external-facing stakeholders.
  • Maintain a consistent brand and graphic standard school-wide
  • Manage communications budget
  • Review, edit, and manage the writing, graphic design and production of all print and digital publications including: Annual Magazine, Annual Report, Annual Giving Brochure, Viewbook, Special Events publications, handbooks, directories, stationery and invitations, and all additional print and digital materials
  • Manage social media channels, which are executed by the Assistant Creative Director
  • Oversee market research.
  • Execute all advertising (design, placement) - print, digital, direct mail
  • Handle all public, community and media relations (feature articles, prepare messages and press releases, handle all media contacts, and cultivate relationships with all local media)
  • Develop and maintain all internal communications (weekly outreach to parents, dynamic email communication, timely messages to parents)
  • Manage publicity and promotion for all special events 
  • Oversee the website, including content and content generation, design, SEO, UX, and general strategy
  • Manage visual needs, including photography, videography and all archives
  • Manage Marketing & Communications staff

Qualifications and skills:

  • 5+ years of professional marketing, communications, journalism, graphic design, and web-design experience
  • Professional writing skills
  • Proven work with web-based communication tools (outbound and inbound strategies)
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills connecting with and compelling a wide range of constituents
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues. Maintain and build relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Creative, cooperative, amiable, supportive, sense of humor, well-read
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Docs and Gmail
