Crew Program Director/Head Coach

Waterford School, a Private Independent School located in Sandy, Utah, is currently recruiting for a PROGRAM DIRECTOR/HEAD COACH for its 2019-2020 crew program. Waterford has a successful and growing high school rowing program. Our program has approximately 60 varsity and novice rowers. In the Fall and Spring season, we train after school on the Jordan River Surplus Canal; we compete in both local and regional regattas and championships, including the Head of the Oklahoma and Head of the American in the fall, and the Long Beach Invitational in the spring. We co-host one regatta each year in the fall and spring. Waterford Crew is committed to the success of every student-athlete. We are looking for a talented, mature, enthusiastic and energetic coach who especially enjoys working with and teaching high school rowers. We are seeking the right person who can build on the positive momentum of our successful team and take them to the next level.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • On-water and dry land instruction for practices and regattas
  • Management of assistant coaches
  • Rower and team development
  • Communication with parents
  • Equipment management, maintenance and repair as needed
  • On Site organization
  • Travel with trailer to and from regattas
  • Teaching half-time in one of the school’s other program areas. (At this point the Crew Director/Coach position is half-time, but as the the program grows it could become full-time.)

Competitive candidates will have: Bachelor's degree, 3+ years rowing in club or collegiate environment, coaching experience with sweep, experience with rigging, equipment maintenance and repair, first Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain, positive, approachable attitude toward all athletes, understanding of USRowing SafeSport practices, excellent oral and written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, strong knowledge of fundamentals and techniques of rowing mechanics, physical conditioning methods and strategies, and athletic development and mentoring, valid driver’s license - experience driving truck and boat trailer combination, passionate about rowing and building a successful program. Candidates should also have training and experience to teach in another program area.
