Lower School (K-V)

Recreational Chess Club

Wednesdays | After School

Our Recreational Chess Club is designed to provide a fun introduction to chess, and to help students learn the rules of chess, as well as strategy, history, and competition rules. Students will play chess in every class and have the opportunity to interact with other chess players in an engaging and interactive environment. There is no placement test required for this class, and students of all levels are welcome.

Lower School (K-V)

Advanced Chess Club

Thursdays | After School

Our Advanced Chess Club is designed to teach a clear and thorough knowledge of all the rules of chess, as well as to practice competitive play and strategy.  A placement test for our Advanced Chess Club will be given. Please note that homework will be assigned with the purpose of reinforcing concepts and strategies learned in class, and students will be expected to complete it by the following class.

Middle & Upper School

Recreational Chess Clubs

Tuesdays | During Lunch

All students in Waterford's Middle and Upper School with an interest in learning how to play "the game of kings" are welcome to join Chess Club. This mentored club teaches the basics and strategy of the game, while preparing students to be competitive and think logically. Members of the club meet during lunch once a week throughout the school year.  This time is designed to provide specialized instruction, answer questions, and allow opportunities for students to compete against their peers in a formal setting. All Waterford students may participate in chess competitions at any time. Further details will be given throughout the year. In addition, the Waterford Registrar has chess sets available to check out during lunch and free blocks.
