Peter currently paints for Dowdle Folk Art.

“Waterford is pleased to present Peter Beck’s artwork in it’s arts center gallery. We hope Peter’s exhibit will inspire young artists at Waterford”—Colby Brewer, Art Department Head.

Peter’s exhibit, "Aspire-Create-Share," explores portraiture, figurative work, and landscapes culminating in a varied display of illustrative works. The exhibit will be in the Heuston Concert Hall Gallery October 10 through November 22.

At Waterford, Peter attended PreK-4 through Class XII, 1997-2011.  “As a young student, Peter had a unique sense of wonder, observation, and focus,” remembers Meg Hungerford.  Peter studied art at Waterford with Kristi Grussendorf, Meg Hungerford, Nathan Florence, Michele Brickner, Colby Brewer, and Suzanne Conine. His oil painting, ”Reflections,” was one of 30 pieces selected from 200,000 entries nationwide to tour schools around the United States with the 2011 AP Student Art Exhibit.

When Peter was thirteen and fourteen years old, he worked for a short time in the studios of Dennis Smith and Blair Buswell, and later with Bill Kirkpatrick.  Peter’s bronze sculpture of legendary pioneer John Rowe Moyle permanently stands outside the stone home and fort in Moyle Park, Alpine.

At BYU, Peter studied Illustration with Robert Barrett, Bryon Draper, Bethanne Andersen, Michael Parker, David Dibble, and Justin Kunz.  He received numerous awards for art that was exhibited in the Harris Fine Arts Center.  In 2017, he received a generous stipend to attend the Portrait Society of America conference in Atlanta.  Peter graduated Magna Cum Laude from BYU this year.  His  artwork has been exhibited in the Springville Museum of Art.

Currently, Peter paints for Dowdle Folk Art in Lindon, Utah.  He accepts commissions for portraits and landscapes. He is most interested in illustrating book covers.  In 2015, Peter painted the cover for the Lower School Holiday CD.

Peter and his wife Marissa live in Midvale.  When he is not creating art, he loves hiking with his family, playing ultimate Frisbee and racquetball, and watching movies.
