Home Community Blog Connection in Common Pursuit – Class Day

Upper School Class Day

A metaphor likening Class XI to unique trees making up a beautiful, photosynthesizing forest; reference to the curiosity and determination of the newest inductees to Upper School in Class IX; and the uproar to Evan L. ’20's call to seniors for #2020Vision marked the importance and fun in the beloved tradition of Class Day. In this special, extended assembly, Upper School students are formally inducted into freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior status and receive class gifts.

Head of School Andrew Menke opened this important time together by noting, "this day is a ritual, of sorts, initiating a time that helps us connect in common pursuit and shared purpose. The keepsakes are an opportunity to connect over a shared tradition—a token of identity—that has been upheld for over 20 years at Waterford. Standing together, we take a moment to celebrate the remarkable scholars and the exceptional faculty in the Upper School."

Class IX - Class Day

Each Class Dean introduced the Class Representatives, who held the floor for a few minutes speaking about the collective strengths of their class. Students from each class also rose to each cross the stage, shake Mr. Menke's hand, and receive their class gift.

The final class to be represented, Class XII, crossed the stage to receive their highly-anticipated, senior sweater. This green sweater is a marker on campus of their senior status, and for some seniors, has been in their vision for 14 years! This important day kicks off another year in the pursuit of Waterford ideals and values, and of a continued curiosity for more.
