Home Community Blog 2025–26 Distinguished Alumni: Jake Reynolds ’02 Returns to Inspire Waterford Students

This past December, Waterford welcomed back 2025–26 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Jake Reynolds ’02 for a campus visit centered on student connection, mentorship, and inspiration.

As President of the New Jersey Devils, Jake leads the business operations and strategy of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment’s three-time Stanley Cup–winning franchise. Yet during his visit, Jake’s focus was squarely on Waterford students and the experiences that help shape confident, curious, and principled graduates.

Jake’s day began in the East Gym, where he joined the Middle School boys basketball team for practice, working with students on final-minute game scenarios. A lifelong athlete, Jake played on Waterford’s Upper School boys basketball team which captured the state championship in 2002. His time on the court offered students a firsthand look at leadership, teamwork, and preparation—values that extend far beyond athletics.

The highlight of the visit was a special lunchtime presentation for Middle and Upper School students. Jake shared how Waterford’s emphasis on integrity, responsibility, curiosity, caring, and excellence continues to guide him in his professional and personal life. He spoke about the importance of defining success individually, embracing challenges, and maintaining perspective—lessons rooted in his Waterford education.

Students then engaged Jake in a thoughtful question-and-answer session, asking about career pathways, leadership, and overcoming obstacles. Jake spoke candidly about the challenges he has faced and the role mentors played in helping him navigate them, reinforcing the value of strong relationships and guidance within a school community.

Following the assembly, Jake, along with his family and friends, toured campus and saw firsthand Waterford’s continued growth and stability. His visit offered students a powerful example of what is possible when a strong educational foundation is paired with curiosity, resilience, and purpose.

Jake’s return to campus was a meaningful reminder of the lasting impact of a Waterford education—and the ways alumni continue to inspire the next generation.
