The Springville Museum of Art accepted four pieces of art from Waterford School faculty this year in the 97th annual Spring Salon. Out of nearly 1,000 entries in this year’s Spring Salon only around 250 were accepted for display. The jurors were blown away by the work they saw and impressed with the skills and thoughtfulness of Utah artists. The jurors noted that there were many so great pieces, and they love seeing the work and being a venue that celebrates the work of Utah’s living artists.
Bernard C. Meyers, photography teacher, had two pieces of work from the Urban Abstract project completed in 2020, Andrew Patteson, photography teacher, had one of his photographs titled Barefoot/concrete, 2020, and Heidi Moller Somsen, ceramics teacher, had a ceramics piece accepted titled Phantom Limb, 2020.
The exhibit will be open April 21, 2021 – July 3, 2021. The Spring Salon was first held in 1922, begun by students and teachers of Springville High School who wanted to exhibit and promote original artwork. The Salon has been held annually since that time, except during World War II when fuel and other goods were rationed nationwide. The Springville Museum of Art continues the tradition today and invites all artists in Utah to participate in this exhibition that is a juried competition to showcase the diversity and quality of contemporary Utah art.
