Welcoming Our New Faculty: 2016-17

We are excited to welcome this group of new faculty, who come to us with diverse and fascinating backgrounds. Several are familiar faces, while others are brand new to Utah. Here’s your chance to learn a bit about them (including excerpts from interviews by Rosa Marshall, our PA President):

Molly Anderson is a new PreK-3 teacher. She grew up in Traverse City, Michigan, and has a B.S. and M.Ed from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her bachelor’s degree is in Psychology-Special Education and her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education- Curriculum Instruction.

What brought you to Utah?
My husband is working at the University Hospital. We have always wanted to live out west!

What is your favorite thing about being here?
THE MOUNTAINS! Every time I step foot outside, I am amazed at their beauty. I have also quickly gained a love for the people. Everyone is incredibly kind and welcoming.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy hiking, reading, running, traveling, and spending time with my friends and family.
 

Matthew Douglas is a new history teacher. He grew up in Dallas, TX and has a B.A. from Austin College and a M.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is completing his dissertation and Ph.D. at Marquette University on seventeenth and eighteenth century French religious toleration and conflict.

What brought you to Utah?
Waterford impressed me with its facilities, staff, and mission that remains committed to the liberal arts, so it felt like a good fit.

What is your favorite thing about being here?
So far, Utah has been amazing: the mountains and outgoing people made the transition from Milwaukee to Sandy a truly seamless one.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I am an avid reader and basketball player (although I wish I had more time for it!).
 

Ben Hoke is the new Director of Advancement. He grew up in TX and has a B.S. from Davidson College.

What brought you to Utah?
Life Elevated!​

What is your favorite thing about being here?
The views and the vistas!

What do you like to do in your free time?
Restaurant hop, mountain bike, organize trips​, meet new people and rendezvous with friends.
 

Katherine Hoke is a new Class IIIHomeroom teacher. She grew up in Connecticut and has B.A. from St. Lawrence University and a M.Ed. in Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8) from Lesley University.

What brought you to Utah?
Wonderful opportunities at Waterford with my husband, Ben!

What is your favorite thing about being here?
Champagne snow days with brilliant blue skies

What do you like to do in your free time?
Explore new restaurants with Ben, read with my nieces and nephew in CT, travel, read, jog, Crossfit, attend TED-style lectures, plan adventures with friends and family, hike, ski, find the perfect spots in coffee shops with a New York Times in hand.
 

Joshua Holder is the new MS/US Band Director. He grew up in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Salt Lake City, and has a B.M. in trombone from the University of Utah.

What brought you to Utah?
Family!

What is your favorite thing about being here?
My favorite things about Utah are its climate and natural surroundings.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy motorcycling, archery, gardening and, of course, playing trombone.
 

Madeline Loughridge is a new Class I homeroom teacher. She grew up in Salt Lake City and has a B.S. from Mount Holyoke College in Psychology and Early Childhood Education and a M.Ed. in Language and Literacy, Reading Specialist Certification from Harvard Graduate School of Education.

What brought you to Utah?
I was looking to try something different after getting my Master’s. I spent time looking for teaching positions in areas where I would be close to family. I never would have guessed I would be back in Utah! 

What is your favorite thing about being here?
I love to be outside whether I’m hiking at any time of the year or skiing at Alta in the winter!

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to hike and swim. I also love to needlepoint.
