Opening for a 3/4-Time Strings Teacher

The Waterford School, Nursery-XII day school enrolling 900 students in suburban Salt Lake City, seeks an Assistant Orchestra Director. Waterford offers a broad, college-preparatory liberal arts program that emphasizes the fine and performing arts in conjunction with the traditional academic disciplines. Waterford has a vibrant Orchestra program that has grown significantly in size over the past decade. The Strings Teacher would take charge of the Lower School strings courses, and work closely with the Orchestra Director in preparing young musicians to perform with an orchestra in the Middle and Upper School.

The ideal candidate would be able to play and teach violin, viola, cello and bass.  A degree in Music Education would be preferred. Essential qualities include the ability to develop a healthy rapport with students age 9-18 and the energy to manage the demands of curriculum planning, teaching, and parent communications. A 3/4-time assignment would require 16-20 teaching hours per week, plus time for planning, grading, and parent communication.
