Waterford Bus Service

05.23.12

Calvin and KenJune will mark the successful completion of our first year running our own bus service. The School runs two routes, Utah County and Salt Lake City, and contracts a Park City route with an excellent company called Wasatch Transportation.

Last summer, the School purchased two buses and hired friendly drivers Ken Miller and Calvin Allred. Ken is a long-time Waterford employee who has driven buses for the school in the past. He is a favorite with the Nursery students because of their annual neighborhood ride in the Big Yellow School Bus with Mr. Miller. He also knows the Lower Schools students from his daily playground duty. Ken is a licensed CDL trainer and oversees transportation at the school.  He currently drives the Utah County Route, which begins in Pleasant Grove and makes three stops on its trip north. Calvin works for Waterford in the IT Department, and before this new role he was the MS boys’ soccer coach. He spends his days with computers and has now mastered the art of bus driving, covering the Salt Lake Route each day. This route begins near the Capitol and travels south on the east side of the valley.

We are excited about this program because it helps us to expand the breadth of our student body. The bus service has been so popular with new and returning families that we have already outgrown our buses and two new, larger buses will arrive on campus this summer. The smaller buses will move into the Waterford fleet, replacing older vehicles there.

The routes and stops are adjusted each year depending on riders’ needs. Details regarding the bus service are available on MyWaterford, as a PDF document in the Resources section (look for “2012-13 Bus Service”). Costs vary by route and one-way contracts are available.

Look for bus service sign-up procedures in your back-to-school materials this August. For additional information you can contact Dawna Scheib in the Lower Schools Office.
