News - June 2010 Archives
By Nancy Heuston, Head of School
One of the benefits of bringing the school year to a close is a long, warm summer.
Another is an earned sense of accomplishment.
A third is the new perspective gleaned from accumulating experience, and sharpened by the most recent year’s cycles and events.
Grateful for the first, quickened by the second, it is the third that I would comment on as we tie a ribbon around the 2009-10 academic year.
Congratulations to our State Champion Men’s Soccer team! Waterford beat undefeated Grand HS 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium to take home the 2A state title. The victory was especially meaningful as the Ravens bid a fond farewell to Bob Capener, who has set the standard for Waterford coaches during his twenty-eight years of coaching soccer. He coached the Ravens to State Championships in 1986, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2007, and now 2010. You can read the Deseret News article here. And just in case you missed it, here are the features on Coach Capener and senior Daniel Rabenales from earlier in the season.

Over the course of the school year, a number of Waterford students have achieved regional, state, and national recognition for their individual achievements in academics, service, the arts, and athletics. Here we present a selection of these achievements. We would like to honor these students, while also apologizing for any we may have overlooked.
The Utah Transit Authority held a competition for groups of young artists from schools all over the valley. Two entries from Waterford were chosen to be on permanent display at the 9400 South 2000 East Park & Ride station. Congratulations to Mrs. Conine’s Upper School students and Mrs. Kitchens’ Class II students! Participating artists were invited to the unveiling of the murals in May.
