As students of the Academy, your children will learn essential skills and techniques from highly-trained instructors who understand the subtleties and nuances of the art form. They will develop an enduring love of dance and music. And they will gain the confidence, poise, and strength that inevitably spring from a fine education in classical ballet.

Classes and Programs

The Waterford Ballet Academy offers classes for children of all ages and skill levels, over the summer and during the school year.

Creative Dance (ages 3-4)
Designed for pre-kindergarten students, this weekly 45-minute class focuses on large motor skills development, basic musial awareness, beginning listening skills, and creative movement. Students will grow to love rhythms and music — and learn to use their bodies to express their creativity.

Pre-Ballet Sections 1 & 2 (ages 5-7)
During this weekly 45-minute class, pre-ballet students will begin to learn the basics of classical ballet through age-appropriate skill development and music appreciation.

Ballet 1 (ages 7-9)
This beginning ballet class teaches basic techniques and movements. Ballet 1 classes are held twice a week for 1 hour.

Ballet 2 (ages 8-11)
This beginning ballet class teaches basic techniques and movements. Ballet 2 classes are held twice a week for 1 hour.

Ballet 3A (ages 11-14)
This course, designed for beginning students, teaches the fundamental skills and technigues required for the study of classical ballet. 1 1/2 hour classes are held three times a week.

Ballet 3B (ages 11-14)
This course, designed for intermediate and advanced students, includes four 1 1/2 hour classes each week. At this level, students begin working on pointe for approximately 1 hour a week.

Ballet 4 (ages 14-18)
Ballet 4 is designed for beginning and intermediate students. This class features four 1 1/2 hour classes every week, including 30 minutes of pointe work three times a week.

Ballet 5 (ages 14-18)
Ballet 5 is reserved for advanced ballet students in Classes IX-XII. Classes are held five times a week, with 30 minutes of pointe work three times a week.

Rehearsal Class
This class is reserved exclusively for students rehearsing for public performances.

Modern Dance (supplement to Ballet 1-5)
These classes will explore the essential elements of dance through composition, improvisation, and basic modern technique. Students will learn to trust their own creative ideas and personal expression by creating compositions on there own and choreographic collaborations with other students. Modern is offered in addition to technique classes in order to expand students’ movement vocabulary for creative exploration, strength, and performance opportunities.
